Tuesday Noyes’ Notes/1°Outside Today: KIS Shoutout & Lurking Fog Banks

Good morning! Fog & low clouds are slow to burn off today, but expect some sunny breaks by mid to late morning. Temperatures will be in the 60s to near 70°F, making for a pleasant start to October. There’s a chance of a stray sprinkle later today, but most of us will stay dry. Watch for low clouds and fog to return late in the day, especially in Eastern Massachusetts and the New Hampshire Seacoast with the onshore flow. Danielle also gives a shout-out to the Kingston Intermediate School where she had a great visit with the 3rd graders just yesterday! If you’d like to book an enrichment program for your school, let us know by filling out this form! And stay tuned for Matt’s October forecast later today!

National Meteorological Summary:

A persistent ridge of high pressure will maintain record-breaking heat across the southwestern U.S., especially over California, southern Nevada, and Arizona. Highs will range 10 to 20 degrees above normal, extending the excessive heat warnings and advisories in place. As a strong cold front moves east from the Northern Plains, gusty winds and very dry conditions will fuel critical fire weather across parts of the Central and Northern Plains. However, this front will not bring much-needed rainfall to the drought-stricken areas. The Mid-Atlantic and Central Appalachians will see one final day of wet weather as a slow-moving upper low exits the region, signaling a shift to drier conditions by mid-week.

Northeast Weather Story:

In New England and upstate New York, the overall pattern will remain relatively quiet today. High pressure will dominate the region, leading to another dry and seasonably mild day. Morning fog will again be a concern, particularly in the valleys, but will dissipate by mid-morning to reveal partly cloudy skies. High temperatures will hover around 70°F, slightly above normal for early October. Coastal areas may experience slightly cooler conditions due to persistent onshore winds.

By tonight into Wednesday morning, an approaching cold front from the Great Lakes will bring increasing cloud cover, with scattered light rain showers mainly across northern New York and Vermont. While rain will be minimal, some spots could see brief periods of light rain during the midweek frontal passage. Dry weather will return on Thursday, with highs remaining in the 60s and 70s, though temperatures could dip into the 40s in some areas overnight.
