Wednesday 1°Outside Evening Essentials: Thunderstorms Sweeping Through

Scattered thunderstorms, some strong to severe are sweeping through the region from west to east this evening and will continue at times overnight. Locally heavy rainfall, lightning and brief damaging wind gusts are the primary threats. By tomorrow morning, just a few leftover showers remain before clouds decrease along with the humidity! Danielle has all the details in the video or if you prefer to read about them below.

Tonight’s Forecast: Thunderstorms and Pockets of Rain

Thunderstorms Tonight

  • These storms should weaken as they move into eastern areas. However, expect some downpours, lightning, and brief gusty winds.
  • You might wake up to a rumble of thunder in southern New England overnight. By tomorrow morning, leftover showers will linger. Roads will be wet, and you may need to use your wipers intermittently, especially if you’re an early morning commuter.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Less Humidity and Pleasant Conditions

Outdoor Outlook

  • Mountains: Fantastic and pleasant, with valleys in the 70s and summits about 10 degrees cooler.
  • Lakes Region: Warm and less humid, with air temperatures in the 80s. Water temperatures are around 80 degrees after this warm stretch. The UV index is very high, so remember to apply and reapply sunblock.

Beaches

  • Humidity will lower throughout the day. It will take most of the day on Cape Cod for dew points to drop, but you’ll feel the difference by evening. The drop in humidity will be felt earlier in eastern Massachusetts and the New Hampshire seacoast.
  • Rip Current Risk: Moderate to high tomorrow. It’s going to be a dangerous situation, particularly from eastern Massachusetts around the outer Cape and the south coast. Keep an eye on the kiddos if they’re heading into the water for some relief.
  • Temperatures: Climbing into the mid to upper 80s in central and southern New England, around 80 in western New England, 75 to 80 along the Canadian border, and upper 70s to low 80s on Cape Cod.
  • Winds: Light winds from the west, potentially allowing local sea breezes to kick in right at the coastline.
