Wednesday Evening Essentials: From Cape Cod Nor’Easter to Warm Mountain Sun Thursday

Residents on Cape Cod – particularly the Outer Cape – and the Islands – particularly Nantucket – will want to secure the patio umbrella and anything lightweight in the yard this evening ahead of gusts that will exceed 40 mph from the northeast on Thursday with a pelting rain.  Matt Noyes says coastal flooding is possible Thursday, but more so Friday when much of the Eastern Massachusetts coast turns gusty.  On the water, seas build, while the mountains look delightful Thursday. Full details in this Evening Essentials video.

Rain and Wind Arrive Thursday:
Tonight into Thursday morning, showers will spread across the Cape, Islands, and into Boston, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds over 40 mph by Thursday morning to Cape Cod. Expect a classic nor’easter feel on the Cape and Islands, with the risk of minor coastal flooding at high tide, especially for Nantucket at Thursday’s midday and Thursday night’s midnight tide. Rain will extend into the 495 corridor, but areas farther north, like Northern New England, will see sunshine and milder conditions.

Coastal Impacts and Friday Outlook:
Coastal flooding concerns (likely to remain minor) expand north at Thursday night’s midnight high tide and especially Friday early afternoon’s tide, with strong northeast winds pushing waves up to 10 feet offshore. Ferry services may be impacted, and pleasure craft boaters won’t want to dabble with this one. The strongest wind gusts on Friday will affect Eastern Massachusetts, with conditions easing by Saturday morning.

Weekend Preview:
While Friday remains gusty, Saturday’s winds will start to ease, though it may not be a particularly pleasant day – full details on the weekend can be found in our Insights Video, posted earlier today.
