Wednesday Insights: Everything you need to know through the upcoming weekend

As the heart of summer arrives and celebrations kick off across New England, meteorologist Danielle Noyes of the 1DegreeOutside Weather Network delivers your midweek forecast update, packed with critical details for Thursday’s storms, Fourth of July fireworks, and the upcoming weekend.

Thursday: Chance of Thunder – Don’t cancel Plans

A cold front on Thursday marks the dividing line between the muggy air in place now and the refreshing, less humid air arriving just in time for Independence Day.

  • Morning: Sunshine starts the day for most. A few early showers or downpours are possible in far northern Vermont and upstate New York.

  • Midday to Afternoon: Scattered showers and thunderstorms develop – most of them brief and not widespread. An isolated strong to severe storm can’t be ruled out, especially in Maine.

  • Evening: The threat for showers diminishes, but a few isolated downpours or rumbles of thunder may linger into fireworks time in southern New England, especially near the South Coast and Cape Cod.

Fourth of July: A Weather Winner

The long-anticipated Fourth looks just about perfect across New England.

  • Humidity drops, making it comfortable and crisp by comparison to recent days.

  • Daytime highs range from 70s in northern and central New England to low 80s in southern New England.

  • Evening fireworks events will enjoy mostly clear skies, comfortable temps in the 60s to low 70s, and a light northwest breeze. On the Esplanade in Boston, expect about 70 degrees at sunset (8:24 PM), dropping gradually through the 60s as the sky lights up.

“This is a gem of a day,” says Danielle. “Just perfect for celebrating outdoors.”

Weekend Outlook: Comfortable Saturday, Then Heat Rebuilds

  • Expect high, thin cirrus clouds to veil the sun and lend a milky appearance to the sky on Saturday

  • Temperatures in the 80s, but with manageable humidity.

  • Northern Maine could see a few showers late Saturday night into Sunday morning, but the day itself looks mostly dry region-wide.

Sunday brings a full dose of heat and humidity:

  • Highs climb into the 90s for much of New England.

  • Heat index values soar to the upper 90s to near 100, prompting the return of typical hot weather precautions.

  • Slight relief near the South Coast and Cape Cod, but the heat reaches as far north as the Canadian border.

Heat Holds Into Early Next Week

Monday will be even hotter with highs in the mid to even some upper 90s possible, and the humidity remains stifling. A cold front is expected to arrive Tuesday, likely bringing a round of scattered thunderstorms and some relief from the heat.

Tropical Outlook: Watching the Southeast

Danielle also notes a developing area of low pressure near Florida. While it’s not yet a tropical depression, the National Hurricane Center has eyes on this system with moderate development potential over the weekend. Clusters of showers and thunderstorms will be monitored for possible organization.
