Wednesday Insights: Cool and Comfortable Air Ends the Week

Danielle already gave us a look at the next 24 hours in Noyes’ Notes/1°Outside Today, so in Insights, Matt picks up where Danielle left off, covering the coming days from cool and comfortable air to the week, to our 14 day dew point forecast and an explanation of why we’ll watch the Tropics in the coming two weeks.

Overview of the Next Few Days Today, a cold front continues its passage through New England, bringing a noticeable drop in humidity, particularly in northern areas today and by this evening to overnight for southern regions. While the risk of showers and thunderstorms is minimal today, a lingering shower could still pop up near the South Coast.

Thursday & Friday: Cooler and Dry By Thursday, expect a northeast wind bringing cooler air across the region, with temperatures only reaching around 70 degrees in Boston. Clouds will be more persistent in southwestern New England, while the rest of the region enjoys a mix of sun and clouds. Friday remains dry with temperatures in the 70s, although southwestern Connecticut could see a shower by the evening.

Weekend Outlook: Humidity Returns The humidity makes a comeback on Saturday, bringing more clouds but limited showers during the day in Southern and Eastern New England. Northern and Western New England will see showers cropping up by Saturday, with a better chance for rain in southern New England by Saturday evening and into Sunday morning. The exact timing of the cold front set to sweep the showers away on Sunday is still TBD – but there is hope the front moves out by Sunday afternoon for breaks of sunshine and highs around 80 degrees after the showers clear.  We’ll keep you posted on more exact timing as we get closer.

Looking Ahead: Fall Air and Tropical Atlantic As we move into next week, another shot of cooler, fall-like air arrives, with lows dipping into the 40s in northern New England. We’re also keeping an eye on a tropical wave that could develop by next week. It’s a long way out with a lot of uncertainty as to whether anything develops, but the jet stream does look to open up from the tropics to New England for a brief time next weekend, so we’ll continue to watch any development carefully.
