Wednesday Insights: Quiet Weather Continues

High pressure has been in charge of our weather pattern the past several days, giving us a pleasant stretch, but eyes are now turning to the weekend with the chance of showers increasing. The big dome of high pressure that has protected us will hang on a little longer, while moisture and energy from the Arkansas area will develop into an ocean storm just off our coast by Friday, bringing a chance for some showers, cloud cover, and a rise in humidity.

Water Vapor and Weekend Energy
Looking at water vapor imagery, we can see another disturbance in western Canada that will dip down by the end of the weekend into early next week. Unlike a couple of weeks ago, though, when these atmospheric disturbances would trigger showers and storms, this time we don’t have the same heat or humidity in the air, so we’re not expecting the same level of activity. This energy may pass overhead with little impact, setting up a stretch of pleasant fall weather early next week.

Friday: A Mix of Clouds and Showers
As the ocean storm forms on Friday, we’ll see increased cloud cover, especially in coastal areas, along with rising humidity. While most showers will be near the storm, there will be a chance of pop-up showers from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Temperatures will stay in the 70s with dew points rising into the 60s, making it feel a bit sticky again after a week of comfortable air.

Saturday: Threading the Needle
Saturday places us between weather systems, with a band of rain expected to develop over New York and Pennsylvania, pushing into western New England by late afternoon or evening. Southern New England will likely see some pop-up showers midday, but nothing too widespread. The heaviest rain is expected to hold off until later in the day, swinging through overnight. Temperatures will remain in the 70s, with humidity still present.

Sunday: Morning Showers, Afternoon Improvement
If current timing holds, Sunday morning may feature leftover showers, especially in southern and coastal areas. However, the afternoon looks to bring improvements with drier air moving in. This could turn Sunday afternoon into the best part of the weekend, with temperatures in the 70s and humidity dropping as we transition back to that crisp, fall-like air.

Looking Ahead: Fall Air Returns Next Week
Dew point temperatures will peak Friday and Saturday before dropping again on Sunday, bringing in a beautiful stretch of fall weather for next week. Expect 75-80°F days with comfortable air before the next chance of showers builds toward the end of the 14-day forecast.

Tropics Update
We’re monitoring three areas in the tropics—one near the Yucatan Peninsula, one in the central Atlantic, and another in the eastern Atlantic. None are showing imminent development, but given that we’re in the most active period of the hurricane season, they’re worth watching closely.
