As we look ahead, the Topsfield Fair kicks off on October 4th with fantastic weather in store. Expect classic fall temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to 70°F during the day and cool nights in the 50s, even dipping into the upper 40s. There’s a low risk of showers throughout the first several days of the Fair – with no major storms in sight. It’s looking like a fantastic fall stretch of weather for Topsfield and much of New England.
Right now, we’re tracking a cold front that’s crossing the region, bringing pockets of rain to northwestern New England today, which will expand this evening and overnight. Tomorrow will be an unsettled day with downpours and potentially embedded thunderstorms in southern New England during the afternoon and early evening. It won’t be pouring the whole day, but it is a day worth having the umbrella and/or raincoat for the wet weather moving through.
By Friday, the front pushes offshore, leaving behind a quiet end to the week. There will be variable clouds, with some high, thin clouds and occasional low clouds coming in off the ocean. However, overall, we’ll enjoy a nice end to September, with high pressure building in and keeping things dry for Saturday and Sunday. It’s looking like a beautiful weekend ahead, with temperatures near 70°F, perfect for outdoor plans.
Tropical Storm Helene continues to strengthen as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico, where it’s expected to rapidly intensify to a Category 3 hurricane by tomorrow. It’s taking aim at the Florida Panhandle, with landfall likely along the coast south of Tallahassee. Significant rainfall of 6-12 inches and storm surge are expected along the Florida coastline. Helen won’t impact New England, as her leftover moisture will move inland and stall over the Tennesee River valley through the upcoming weekend.
