Today will be hot and humid with thunderstorms developing generally after 4pm in isolated areas before an area of rain and thunder sweeps through tonight. Let’s break down the details…
- Temperature and Humidity: It’s going to be a hot one today, with highs well into the 80s for many of us and 90+ in Southern New England. Boston may reach 90-92°F, and Hartford is also expected to surpass 90°F. Dew points will climb through the 60s, making it increasingly humid.
- Rip Current Risk: There is a high risk of rip currents at beaches along the South Coast, Outer Cape, and Islands. Be cautious if you’re heading to the beach, as dangerous conditions are expected in the waters.
Afternoon and Evening: Isolated Strong Storms
- Timing: Isolated strong storms are expected to start firing up from 4 PM onwards. Most of the day will be dry, but keep an eye out for storms in the late afternoon and evening.
- Flooding Risk: Any storms that develop could be slow movers, elevating the risk for localized flooding.
- Wind: Expect a west-southwest breeze at 10-20 mph, gusting higher along the South Coast and Cape Cod.
Tonight’s Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms
- Storms and Showers: A round of rain and thunderstorms will move in overnight into very early tomorrow. Some storms could be strong, especially in Western Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. These storms will bring downpours and rumbles of thunder that may wake you up overnight.
Early Tomorrow: Clearing Out
- Timing: The back edge of the storm system will move through by 5-8 AM, west to east, except for Eastern Maine and the Cape, where downpours and rumbles of thunder may persist until about 9 AM.
- Rainfall Totals: Most areas will see about a quarter to a half an inch of rain, with half an inch to an inch in southern New England with locally higher totals.
Tomorrow’s Weather: Less Humid
- Clearing Skies: After the morning storms, the sun will break out, and the humidity will decrease throughout the day.
