Weekend Edition:
February 1-2, 2025

New England is in for a weekend of changing weather, with snow arriving Sunday evening before a rapid warm-up Monday melts much of it away. After that, a midweek storm could bring more rain and snow.

For now, a blustery northwest wind continues to drag colder air into the region for our Saturday. Any lingering snow showers and flurries will taper off through late morning with some ocean-effect snow showers lasting on Cape Cod until early afternoon. Temperatures will fall throughout the day, making for localized slick spots on untreated surfaces. Overnight, temperatures plummet into the single digits and subzero readings in northern New England.

By Sunday, clouds increase and thicken, setting the stage for the next system. Light snow begins in western New England between 4-6 PM and spreads east through the evening. A coating to 2 inches is expected south of Boston, with 2-4 inches likely in northern New England. Along the South Coast, milder air may lead to a brief mix with rain or little if any precipitation, with a sharp southern edge.

Monday morning, the system moves out quickly, but with temperatures surging into the 40s, much of the snowfall will melt rapidly, leaving behind puddles. A southwest wind at 10-20 mph will help drive the quick warm-up.

Looking ahead, another storm system is on track to arrive later Wednesday into Thursday. With temperatures bouncing up and down, we’ll be tracking whether rain, snow, or a mix will impact New England.
