A classic New England summer weekend is unfolding across the region, with big changes on the horizon as we move through the Independence Day holiday weekend. According to Matt Noyes, Saturday starts off about as pleasant as it gets: high pressure remains in control, winds are light, and temperatures climb comfortably into the 80s for most, with a slight sea breeze keeping the coastline cooler. Cloud cover will increase a bit through midday and afternoon, but conditions will remain dry and ideal for all kinds of outdoor plans. Saturday night stays comfortable, with lows in the 60s and even some 50s in northern areas. However, that comfortable air mass will give way to warmer, stickier air on Sunday as humidity surges back into New England. Highs will soar into the 90s in many towns, with a few isolated afternoon storms developing — especially in the mountains from the Berkshires to the Lakes Region — but the vast majority of the region will remain dry through the evening, allowing for fireworks shows to continue under warm skies, still hovering in the 80s at showtime. Monday keeps the heat and humidity going, and while storm coverage remains spotty, the potential for scattered thunderstorms increases. Tuesday is shaping up as the most unsettled day, with a front stalling nearby and potentially triggering more widespread showers and storms.
