For the second straight April, snow has returned to parts of New England, reminding us once again how persistent wintry weather can be—even deep into spring. Overnight into Saturday morning, some communities picked up 6″+ of snow, with higher elevations faring best (or worst) for accumulation.
Expect rain and mixed showers continuing through midday Saturday, with temperatures slowly nudging upward into the upper 30s to low 40s. Snowflakes will gradually transition to raindrops across most of southern and central New England. However, the raw feel sticks around, with most areas locked in the upper 30s all day.
By afternoon to evening, precipitation fades to drizzle in most areas—but some colder inland spots (like Worcester) may flirt with 32°F overnight, raising the risk for isolated slick spots by early Sunday morning.
Rain and drizzle redevelop Sunday morning, especially in eastern New England, from the South Shore and Cape Cod to interior eastern Massachusetts. The farther west you are, the drier Sunday will be—with potential for late-day clearing in western MA, VT, and the Connecticut River Valley. Expect highs in the 40s.
By Monday, the storm system exits and a brighter sky returns! Expect a mix of sun and clouds and highs climbing back into the 50s. Monday night into Tuesday brings a new round of showers, but this time it’s mostly raindrops, with perhaps some wet snow in northern high terrain.
We’re turning a slow page toward spring. Day by day next week, we moderate toward seasonable weather and drier skies.
