Weekend Insights: Florida Watches the Gulf, Europe Watches Kirk, New England Watches Cold Fronts

There’s a LOT going on in the weather…even considering it’s so dry in much of the nation!  Here in New England, two cold fronts dip in over the coming days with the chance of showers – Matt times those out, while explaining why Florida is watching the Gulf of Mexico (again) and even New England may end up seeing some swell from far offshore, but very strong, Hurricane Kirk.

Warm and Dry End to the Week

Friday brings warm, dry weather to much of the region, with temperatures reaching the 70s far and wide. A weak cold front approaches Friday night, but it brings only light showers that will clear by Saturday morning. Most areas will stay dry, making for a great start to the weekend, especially with Topsfield Fair kicking off. Expect highs of 70°F or better for most of southern New England, with 60s to the north.

Showers Clear by Saturday Morning

Any showers that come through overnight Friday will be gone by the time most of us wake up on Saturday. If you’re in eastern Maine or the Outer Cape, there might be some lingering showers in the early morning, but they’ll clear quickly. Saturday will feature sun and clouds with temperatures in the 60s and 70s, providing a fantastic day for outdoor plans or a visit to the Topsfield Fair.

Sunday: Pleasant, Cooler Day

Sunday looks great as well, with temperatures in the 60s and lighter winds. If you’re headed to Gillette Stadium for the Patriots game, the weather is going to be excellent for tailgating and the game, with clear skies and comfortable temps. It’s another great day for outdoor activities all around New England.

Next Week: Showers Monday and Cooler Temps

By Sunday night into Monday, a cold front will move in, bringing the next chance of showers. Monday morning may be damp, especially at the bus stop for the kids. Temperatures will drop into the low to mid 60s on Monday, and the chance of showers will linger through the day. Tuesday follows with a mix of clouds and cooler air, with highs only in the 50s across northern New England, setting the stage for potential frost Tuesday night in some areas.

Tropics Update: Watching Kirk and Leslie

In the tropics, Hurricane Kirk is a category 4 storm in the central Atlantic, but it’s forecasted to stay well away from New England. However, keep an eye on Leslie, which still has a chance to curve toward land. We’re also monitoring a potential system in the Gulf of Mexico that could develop and bring impacts to Florida next week. More updates on this will come throughout the weekend.
