Astronomical summer begins Thursday with the solstice and how fitting that we’re making our heat wave official with this 3rd day in a row of 90+ degree temperatures. The humidity has been stifling out there and combined with highs well into the 90s again, the heat index will be 100 to 105 in much of central and southern New England. Northern New England will still be hot too – in the 80s, with some relief along the immediate south coast and downeast Maine. Thunderstorms are likely to pop as early as midday, and continue into the afternoon and evening Thursday, with some storms capable of producing damage. Not every storm will turn severe, though downpours and lightning even in non-severe storms will result in localized flooding and the need to seek shelter inside. We finally break the heat on Friday as a front slides through, cooling our temperatures by 10-20 degrees in most locations.
