We’re coming off one of the hottest days of the season, and while temperatures won’t be quite as intense today, storm chances return – and some could be on the stronger side.
Temperatures today will range from the lower 90s inland to around 96 in the hottest locations. A sea breeze may provide brief relief along the immediate coast, where temperatures will likely hover near 90 depending on wind direction. Dew points remain in the upper 60s to near 70, making it feel oppressive again with a heat index between 92 and 100 in many areas.
As we move through the day, cumulus clouds will begin to bubble up by early afternoon, and by 2–3 PM, isolated thunderstorms will start to form. The highest threat for scattered action is in northern Maine and in far southern New England (through CT, RI & southeast MA) .
Not every town will see a storm today – but those that do could get brief damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours, so localized flooding is a concern. And storm activity may linger overnight into early Thursday morning as a slow-moving front sets up shop nearby. Expect a muggy night with lows in the 60s to near 70.
This is just the beginning of a multi-day flood risk. That boundary will remain in place through Thursday and early Friday, setting the stage for repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms. We’ll detail that more in today’s upcoming Insights video – available on our app home screen and at 1DegreeOutside.com.
