Thursday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes:
Where Isolated Storms
Are Expected

Thursday delivers another pleasant day across much of New England, continuing a stretch of comfortable air and quiet weather. While the dew points remain in the 50s, allowing for easy breathing and great sleeping weather, some patchy morning fog may form early today and again tonight into Friday morning. However, high clouds will thin, giving way to increasing sunshine through the afternoon for most.

An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible this afternoon and evening, primarily in the Green Mountains, Berkshires, and Litchfield Hills of western Connecticut. These will be very hit-or-miss and similar to what we’ve seen earlier this week – brief and localized. Eastern New England stays dry, with skies clearing nicely by late day.

Although the wildfire smoke remains aloft, it’s not a surface-level issue today. The haze may be visible in the sky but won’t significantly impact air quality.

Along the coast, an onshore breeze keeps temperatures in the 70s, while inland areas will hit or exceed 80 degrees. From Hampton, NH to Biddeford, ME, there’s not a huge temperature difference between the shore and interior, with most spots running in the upper 70s to low 80s. Northern New England and the Canadian provinces are similar, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.

Dexter, the tropical system far offshore, continues to send back swells, creating a moderate to high rip current risk for some eastern-facing beaches. That risk varies by location but is worth keeping in mind if you’re heading to the ocean.

Tonight, temperatures drop again into the 50s, continuing the string of cool, comfy nights – perfect for sleeping with the windows open.
