Thursday Insights: Comfortable Air, Isolated Storms & the Bolton Fair!

With the Bolton Fair arriving this weekend – and a special, exclusive promo code to get you in, thanks to Fiesta Shows’ partnership with 1DegreeOutside – the weather could hardly be better. Low humidity, warm days and cool nights are in place through Sunday across most of New England. Daily highs climb from the mid-80s Friday and Saturday to near 90 on Sunday, but the dew point stays comfortably low through the weekend, and Matt Noyes highlights it all in our Thursday Insights video.

An isolated shower or thunderstorm is still possible each afternoon and evening, particularly across northern and western New England, the Lakes Region, and the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. These storms have been feeding off warmth and even produced a severe thunderstorm warning in New Hampshire earlier this week. Although they’re isolated, any storm that does develop could produce brief gusty wind, thanks to dry air aloft.

Meanwhile, former Tropical Storm Dexter, now an extratropical system, continues to send swell toward the New England coast, keeping a moderate rip current risk in place, especially along east-facing shorelines. By Friday, the risk will ease a bit but still lingers in spots.

We’re also watching one area of low pressure off the southeastern U.S. coast that may attempt tropical development. But it looks to buzz by well to our south. Another system farther out in the Atlantic will be monitored in the longer range.

Wildfire smoke is still present in the upper levels of the atmosphere, leading to a milky or grayish appearance to the sky at times, especially over northern New England. However, surface air quality remains good.

The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows a continued moderate drought on Cape Cod, with abnormally dry conditions expanding across northern New England. While some areas picked up 1–2″ of rain last week, many others have fallen short of normal rainfall over the last month.

Looking ahead, humidity returns next week, with dew points rising back into the mid-60s to near 70 by Monday and Tuesday. Our 1DegreeOutside members already have access to this via the 14-day dew point and “feels like” forecast, which you can find at membership.1degreeoutside.com.
