Today will bring another round of thunderstorms, with the greatest threat across southern and eastern New England between noon and 8 PM.
While not everyone will see a storm, those that do may experience slow-moving downpours capable of producing 1–2 inches of rain per hour, leading to localized flash flooding. The setup features a slow-moving, stalling cold front, which can also cause “training” – storms repeatedly forming over the same location, compounding rainfall totals.
Northern New England will see less activity, with clearing and less humid air arriving by evening. Some storms may linger into the early night along the South Coast before cooler, drier air spreads farther south overnight.
By Friday morning, most of New England will notice the difference – dew points dropping into the 50s (even 40s in the far north). The South Shore and Cape Cod may hold onto humidity a bit longer, but will see it decrease during the day.
Friday and Saturday will be beautiful — sunshine, comfortable humidity, and highs in the 80s. Heat and humidity will make a brief return Sunday before another cooldown next week.
Forecast Highlights:
Today: Highs 82–88°, near 90 in southern New England; 70s–80s along South Coast/Cape. Greatest thunderstorm risk central, eastern & southern New England.
Tonight: Variable clouds, patchy fog; lows 40s north to 60s south; humidity dropping.
Friday: Mostly sunny, low humidity, highs in the 80s.
Saturday: Continued dry, highs mid–upper 80s.
