After a string of September ups and downs, Thursday looks like a gift – a beautiful day region-wide with sunshine, low humidity, and highs in the 70s (a few towns may even flirt with 80). Northern Maine will top out in the 60s, but still plenty pleasant.
Thursday night turns chilly in the North Country, with 30s possible in valleys and even a touch of frost. Elsewhere, expect 40s and 50s.
By Friday, a cooler air mass arrives behind a front. There’s not much moisture with it, so aside from some clouds or an isolated sprinkle, the day is dry and seasonably mild — highs in the low to mid-70s south, 60s north, and a light sea breeze near the coast.
The weekend gets trickier. A dip in the jet stream – think of it like the atmosphere’s thermostat – carves a trough over the Northeast. Within that trough, small ripples of energy spin through. Each one can bubble up clouds and showers.
Saturday: Sunshine mixed with puffy clouds. A few scattered showers may pop up midday through afternoon, most likely inland. Not a washout – just keep an umbrella handy if you’re headed out.
Sunday: A stronger upper low drops south from Canada. Expect lots of clouds, cooler temps near 70, and scattered showers that may linger into early next week.
For New Englanders watching the Patriots, you won’t need the raincoat – they’re in Miami, where kickoff temps will hover near 90 with humidity making it feel mid-90s.
