There’s plenty to break down in the weather department over the next several days…and beyond!
Friday is quiet but chilly with sun and a breeze. After midnight, patchy light snow spreads in, especially across central/northern New England and the interior of southern New England. Rates are light – but this is a “sticks on contact” scenario with cold air in place. Expect a coating to 1″ in far southern New England (Boston/South Shore likely on the lighter side), 1–2″ from the northern Worcester Hills into central NH, with 2–3″ possible where terrain helps (southern VT/Berkshires/far NW Worcester County). By late morning/midday Saturday, temperatures nudge up enough that roads trend more wet than white, and showers/snow showers taper. So bottom line: a light & minor event, but some localized slick travel is anticipated on Saturday morning especially.
Next up is Sunday’s potential coastal storm — not a blockbuster, but plowable snow is on the table.
The main storm center will likely stay offshore and moving, not phasing into a slow, powerful nor’easter. That said, if the track edges a bit closer, southern New England – especially far southeast – could land under steadier bands. Our early read: a few inches are possible in southern New England, with gusty coastal wind at times Sunday night into early Monday, but no major wind or coastal flooding concerns. We’ll refine track/amounts in the next 24-48 hours; timing favors Sunday an arrival time on Sunday afternoon with the “height” of snow Sunday evening & overnight.
After that: Another round of Arctic air returns next week
Behind Sunday’s system, cold deepens Monday night, and Tuesday–Wednesday highs struggle out of the teens and 20s (north→south) with wind chills near/under zero at times in northern New England. It’s excellent news for snow guns and maintaining trail quality; fast-moving clippers move through too, so we’ll keep an eye on fresh chances to add to the natural tally.
Early Head’s Up
But if you watch our monthly forecast & pattern predictions, you already know about this…next weekend, there’s the chance of storminess centered around the 25th (either side of that).
