It’s a big week along our beaches and for the boating community, with Hurricane Erin offshore sending building swell into New England waters.
Wednesday: Not an ideal beach day. Temperatures hover near 70° with low UV index, and high tide comes late morning. Expect lots of clouds and pockets of showers and steadier rain south by late afternoon/evening.
Moderate to high rip current risk through the remainder of this week, building seas and localized erosion, particularly Thursday into Friday.
Late Week Outlook:
Thursday–Friday: Peak surf and swell. Offshore seas 10–20 ft, with 3–8 ft breaking waves along South Coast beaches. Life-threatening rip currents.
Saturday: Seas ease to 5–10 ft offshore, but rip current risk remains elevated as sunny skies and warm temps return.
Sunday: Further improvement with 2–4 ft seas, though swimmers should remain cautious.
Safety note: Rip currents are powerful channels of water pulling away from shore. Don’t swim against them – instead, swim parallel to the beach or let the current carry you out until it weakens. Always follow lifeguard guidance.
