Friday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes:
Gusty Wind Brings In Refreshing New Air

The official start of summer arrives tonight at 10:42 p.m., and Mother Nature seems to know exactly how to celebrate. According to Matt Noyes of the 1DegreeOutside Weather Network, Friday brings a welcome shift: dew points tumble from the tropical 70s into the refreshing 50s, ushering in drier, more comfortable air just in time for the Summer Solstice.

However, this relief doesn’t come quietly – winds will gust up to 40 mph inland and as high as 50 mph over open waters, especially in the Champlain Valley and Green Mountains during the morning, spreading eastward by midday. If you’re headed out for a beach day or boating trip, be prepared for rougher seas early, although winds will ease significantly after 7 p.m.

Northern New England, especially central and northern Maine, will see a few lingering showers and even small hail, thanks to jet stream energy and colder air aloft. An isolated storm near the South Coast can’t be ruled out either, but most areas stay dry by evening.

Highs in southern New England will hover around 80°F, while central areas may just fall shy. Overnight lows bring a cool-down, with 40s in the north and 50s to near 60 south.

Looking ahead, Saturday starts with a quick-moving disturbance, but the day turns pleasant. Sunday brings humidity back and a return to heat by next week, but for now, today is all about enjoying the fresh air and smooth sailing into the weekend.
