It’s a warm, mostly quiet Monday across New England, with most of us seeing sunshine and comfortable humidity. Temperatures climb into the upper 80s and near 90°, especially across southern and central New England, but a light wind and afternoon sea breeze will provide some coastal relief. Matt Noyes has the full rundown.
Before we dive into the weather, a heartfelt thank you: last week our website was attacked by over 500,000 hits in a coordinated cyberattack. That haze in the sky today isn’t just humidity—surface-based wildfire smoke is drifting into southern New England from the north. It may degrade air quality this afternoon and evening, especially for sensitive groups. You may see it as a hazy sky or even smell smoke in some areas.
By Tuesday, the smoke is expected to push into western New England, with a return to cleaner air for the east as the wind shifts from the northeast.
Most of us stay dry, but a few isolated showers or thunderstorms may bubble up across northern and mountainous areas this afternoon. Those storms may drift southeast into parts of the Maine coastline, but not likely into central or southern New England. Even in the mountains, many will stay dry.

Overnight, temperatures won’t dip quite as low as recent nights. That’s because humidity begins to tick up, especially in southern and central New England. You’ll feel the difference Tuesday.
Tuesday through Thursday, each afternoon may feature a chance for isolated inland storms, but widespread rain remains unlikely.
