Thursday 1°Outside Today/Noyes Notes:
Dog Days of Summer!
Southwest Breeze Kicks Up

With temperatures soaring and dew points ticking back up, we’re in the thick of the dog days of summer. According to Meteorologist Danielle Noyes of the 1DegreeOutside Weather Network, Thursday stays storm-free despite the humidity increase – but Friday is a different story.

Until then, highs in the upper 80s to low 90s will be common today with a bit of relief along the immediate south coast where it’ll be in the upper 70s to low 80s. The southwest wind kciks up 10-20 mph with gusts to 35 mph possible. It’s nice to have a breeze on a day like today though!

Meanwhile, a cold front approaches Friday, ushering in scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. While not every town will see a storm, any that form could become strong to severe, with damaging wind the primary threat. It’s a classic setup: building heat and humidity – Friday’s heat index will exceed 100° in many areas – followed by the potential for thunderstorms as a front cuts into the sticky air mass.

By Saturday, drier and cooler air arrives, knocking dew points down and giving us a break from the recent soupy stretch. Expect a brief return to humidity on Sunday before dew points drop again next week, part of a fluctuating pattern that can be tracked in our Two-Week Dew Point and Feels Like Forecast, available to all members.
