Rain gear back in action today, New England. Scattered showers will dot the morning commute, but the main event – a soaking band of rain – pushes west to east through the region late Thursday into Thursday night.
Late Morning–Afternoon: Spotty light showers, especially across western New England.
4–6 PM: Rain fills in from eastern NY into western MA, CT, and southern VT/NH.
6–10 PM: Steadier rain Heavier downpours expand across much of southern and central New England.
Overnight: A few embedded rumbles of thunder can’t be ruled out as the system sweeps northward.
Rainfalla mounts will be variable, though we expect 1–2 inches of rainfall for many cities/towns, with locally higher totals over 2 inches from southern Maine to Cape Cod. With leaves down and drains clogged, urban flooding and ponding could cause slick spots and slow travel tonight.
As the rain pulls away early Friday (Halloween), winds shift from east to west-southwest – and ramp up.
Gusts of 30–40 mph will be common regionwide, with isolated higher gusts to 50 mph possible for the Cape/Islands & hilly terrain.
That means a chilly, blustery Halloween evening. Trick-or-treaters will feel like it’s in the around 40. So layer up underneath!
