Tuesday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes: Humidity Ticks Up, Isolated Storms Inland

After a stretch of comfortable days, humidity nudges higher today, especially across Southern New England, and some of us are feeling it as we step out the door this morning. The uptick in dew points into the mid-60s is enough to notice, though it won’t last long – it drops back again overnight tonight.

Inland areas, particularly central and western New England, will see the best shot at isolated afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms, while an onshore breeze will keep the eastern half of the region drier and cooler. The marine influence not only stables out the atmosphere near the coast but also keeps temperatures cooler along the beaches, where highs top out in the 70s, compared to the low-to-mid 80s inland.

The 1DegreeOutside weather app remains a great tool today for watching how any developing storms behave. Matt recommends the Past+Future radar mode to track not just where showers have been—but where they’re heading.

Wildfire smoke, which thickened over the region on Monday, is also thinning today, particularly in southern and eastern New England, as that same onshore wind brings in cleaner ocean air. Western New England, however, could still see some lingering haze. Fortunately, overnight will bring more relief on multiple fronts: temperatures fall back to around 60 degrees, and the air feels more comfortable once again.

If you missed it, our August Monthly Forecast details how this drier-than-normal pattern may persist unless a tropical system stirs things up. You’ll find that now at 1DegreeOutside.com or atop the home screen of our app.
