It’s a great start to the holiday shortened week, but Meteorologist Matt Noyes says more unsettled weather is on the way later this week. While that helps the pollen count, it has those with weekend plans keeping weather antenna up again. Matt runs down all the details from this early vantage point in our Tuesday Insights video – the deep dive into the meteorology behind the forecast!
The pattern begins to change as early as Wednesday night, when a wave of low pressure brings rain into southern New England. Showers will spread northward Thursday, with some steady rain possible especially early in the day. By Thursday night, that system is moving out, but it’s quickly replaced by another cold front from the northwest, which may trigger showers and thunderstorms on Friday amid lingering humidity.
Then comes the wildcard: a storm system over the southern U.S. trying to link with the front nearby. If the two connect, Saturday could feature a more organized, soaking rain – especially across northern New England. If they stay separate, more scattered downpours and thunderstorms would be the outcome. It’s a 50/50 call at this point, so Matt encourages viewers to stay tuned and keep the antenna up rather than cancel any weekend plans just yet.
Temperatures will remain mild midweek (some towns near 80 on Wednesday), dip slightly with Thursday’s rain, then rebound into the 70s Friday. Matt also notes that if the pattern shifts next week, it may finally open the door to more sustained warmth.
