Today is a “transition Tuesday” for New England, as the region begins its move into an increasingly humid, storm-prone, and hot stretch of weather. Today’s forecast features mostly cloudy skies, patchy fog, and a persistent onshore breeze keeping temperatures cooler than normal – especially at the coast, where highs will range from the mid-60s to near 70°F. Inland, temperatures climb into the low to mid-70s, with some upper 70s possible in northern Vermont and northern Maine. Scattered showers will develop, particularly across western and central New England later this afternoon and evening. These are expected to consolidate, so the wipers will be needed for the commute, and passing showers linger through the overnight.
By Wednesday morning, that moisture and a surge of humidity will be fully in place, bringing with it the potential for scattered downpours and even a few thunderstorms, particularly for early commuters. That’s the signal of the bigger change coming: Thursday will feature the peak of this week’s heat and humidity, with oppressive conditions and a cold front in play that could spark strong to severe thunderstorms later in the day. Danielle flags another chance for storms – especially across southern New England – on Friday before drier, more pleasant air takes over just in time for what’s currently looking like a beautiful Saturday.
Bus stop weather still calls for a light jacket this morning for kids heading out early, but it can go in the backpack later as temps rise.
