Wednesday 1°Outside Today/Noyes’ Notes: Historic Heat Fades as Relief Slowly Arrives for New England

After living through the hottest June day ever recorded in Boston and other parts of New England, today begins the slow retreat from the grip of epic heat. According to Matt Noyes, Wednesday won’t be as extreme – but with dew points still near 70 in southern New England, the “feels like” temperatures will still soar into the mid to upper 90s for many.

Northern New England is first to feel relief, where dew points have already dropped significantly and temperatures have tumbled compared to earlier this week. For the rest of us, the cold front is slowly pushing southward, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms midday through early evening, especially across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Even tonight, some showers may linger near the South Coast, and by Thursday morning, another round is possible. But the good news: the new air mass fully arrives Thursday, with high temperatures only in the 60s at the coast and 70s inland. Humidity drops substantially, and while some clouds and showers will remain, it will feel like a brand new air.

Matt notes that Saturday still brings shower chances, and maybe thunder, as the leftover warmth clashes with new cool air – but Sunday improves…more on that in our Insights video on our homepage and atop the homescreen of our app. For now, today is a day of transition, with the full forecast (and future radar) always available in the free 1DegreeOutside Weather App.
