Weekend Edition: September 27-28

It’s the last weekend of September and our weather is hanging onto a late-summer feel. Both Saturday and Sunday will run slightly above average with highs in the 70s to near 80°, variable cloud cover, and no frost concerns.

Saturday brings sunshine mixed with clouds and a light onshore breeze. A stray sprinkle may pop up across the interior, but overall outdoor plans are good to go. Overnight, a plume of moisture will brush southern New England. That means early risers Sunday may find damp roads and pockets of showers, especially along the South Coast, Cape, and Islands. The northern half of New England stays dry and bright. By late morning into the afternoon, clouds and showers move out, setting the stage for a beautiful Sunday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures:

  • Saturday: Low/mid 70s at the coast, mid/upper 70s inland.

  • Saturday night: 40s in the far North Country, 50s–60s elsewhere.

  • Sunday: 70s to near 80, cooler on the South Coast and northern Maine.

  • Sunday night: Mid-40s north, 50s–60 farther south.

  • Monday & Tuesday: Dry, pleasant, highs 75–80 with high thin cirrus clouds.

Leaf Peeping:
Color is emerging fast! High color now in northeastern Vermont, northern New Hampshire, and northern Maine. Moderate color stretches across the spine of the Green Mountains, Berkshires, and central New Hampshire. Farther south, foliage remains mostly low with splashes of peak color on individual trees. You can help us build our foliage map – share your photos using the Send to Us tab in the 1DegreeOutside app.

Tropics & Ocean:
Developing Imelda will stay to our south, but bring flooding rain, surge and gusty wind to the southeast U.S. Offshore, Hurricane Humberto will strengthen, staying over open waters but increase swell and rip current risk up and down the east coast and for us here at home especially Tuesday and Wednesday.
