After a refreshingly cool Friday morning – 40° in Presque Isle, Maine – New England enters a weekend that’s part unsettled and part sunny, with the real warmup just beyond. Matt Noyes offers full details in our Weekend Insights video – along with a look to the July 4th holiday week.
Saturday Setup:
A disturbance in the jet stream triggers a cold front + warm sector collision, resulting in morning showers across northern New England and scattered thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, particularly in western MA and VT. Some storms may be strong, with gusty wind and small hail possible.
☔ Steady rain in northern areas, especially in the morning
⛅ Scattered showers into midday/early afternoon; Cape Cod lags behind others
⚡ Thunderstorms from west to east late-day, most focus in Western New England
🧊 Northern highs in the 50s–60s; humid 70s–near 80 south
Sunday = The Pick of the Weekend:
After the front clears, sunshine returns for most of the region. It’s a warmer, drier day with less humidity and great outdoor potential.
Looking Ahead:
🌡️ Monday: 80s return with low humidity and sun
⛈️ Tuesday: Warm and humid again, with thunder possible
🔁 Next two weeks: Repeating pattern of warmth → front → thunder
