Damaging Winds and Heavy Rain
- Wind Gusts: Blue Hill Observatory in Milton, MA, recorded a peak gust of 72 mph, with other coastal and elevated areas also seeing gusts of 50-60 mph. Expect power outages where the strongest winds mix down to the surface.
- Rainfall Totals: Torrential downpours have brought widespread 2-3 inches of rain, with pooling on roads and hydroplaning risks. Visibility is significantly reduced in some areas.
- Thunderstorms Possible: As the cold front pushes through tonight, a line of heavy downpours with isolated thunder will sweep west to east between through 10 PM.
Cold Air and Mountain Snow
Behind the rain, colder air will sweep in, flipping rain to snow in higher elevations.
- Timing: Snow will begin in the Berkshires and Green Mountains around 10 PM, spreading into western New Hampshire and Vermont by midnight.
- Snow Totals:
- Light accumulations (a coating to 2 inches) expected in the Berkshires, Litchfield Hills, and far northwest Worcester County.
- Heavier amounts (3-6 inches) forecast for the Green Mountains and parts of northern Vermont.
- Thursday Morning: Snow showers will linger across the mountains, with slick conditions likely on untreated roads.
Tomorrow’s Chill
- Temperatures: Highs will range from the 30s in northern New England to near 40°F in Boston.
- Feels Like: Wind chills will make it feel like 20s for most of the region, so dress warmly for the day ahead.
